The five senses define how we take in a moment, a place, or a memory. Sometimes while traveling a certain image can imprint itself on our minds, we’ll take it home with us and never forget it. If you had the chance to stay somewhere with an unforgettable view right in the backyard, would you take it? From the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea, many of our favorite views involve the wide blue yonder. Here are five terraces with ocean views that are definitely worth the airfare.
1. Villa Delfine, Malibu
Temperatures in Malibu are warm during the day and cooler at night, which makes the outdoor fireplace at Villa Delfine seem like the perfect finishing touch. With plenty of seating around the fire, you’ll have no reason to go indoors when you could be enjoying views of the Pacific Ocean, day and night. Beachfront to one of Malibu’s best beaches, you’ll feel like one of the celebrities that frequent this Hollywood hub daily. Yet, when the sun goes down, you’ll have your own private campfire party just steps away from your bed. Make sure someone brings a guitar!

2. Samujana Thirty, Thailand
From the Samujana terrace, we promised you’ll see nothing but water for miles and miles. Head straight to the top-floor living area, and when you look down you’ll be surrounded by an infinity pool that appears to blend right into the sea below. From there, you can see forever out onto the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Thailand off Koh Samui’s northeastern tip. With an outdoor dining table boasting seating for 10, plus couches, lounge chairs, and shaded daybeds, we can’t think of a better place for your group to hang together and enjoy the views.

3. Axel Rocks, St Barts
If an ocean sunset over St Barts is your idea of a perfect evening (it’s definitely ours!) then we highly recommend several nights on this terrace in the heart of Gustavia. The layout is sprawling and the open-concept common areas are massive, but follow the breeze and you’ll find exactly what you’ve been looking for – the mind-blowing outdoor space overlooking the ocean. Hook up your favorite song on the Sonos sound system, grab a glass of wine, and chill the night away as the sun disappears into the Caribbean.

4. Villa Stark, Turks & Caicos
All ocean views all the time. On a private stretch of Turks & Caicos’ Babalua Beach, Villa Stark is a massive property facing the Atlantic Ocean with room for 20, meaning there are enough beds and there’s plenty of room for everyone on the terrace(s). Alfresco living areas basically cover the perimeter of this multi-level mansion, and perks include an outdoor shisha lounge. Between the main house, beach house, and yoga pavilion, there are ocean views aplenty.

5. Mar-a-Villa, Costa Rica
The Spanish word for marvelous is maravilloso, hence the name of this Costa Rican gem. The most marvelous thing about this brand new villa is its long terrace hugging a wide infinity pool. Nestled deep within a gated community in Playa Hermosa, you have all the privacy you could wish for here. We’re thinking edge of the terrace, feet hanging into the pool, looking out into the distance. You can use the barbecue to cook up your own feast while making cocktails in the outdoor bar, or hire a private chef and bartender so you never have to take your eyes off the beautiful view of the Gulf of Papagayo for even a minute.
