It’s nearing that time of year when sun-starved snow birds are preparing to flock south for the winter. St. Bart’s gives cold-weather escapees a prime reason to come earlier and stay later. Get your Ray-Bans ready, below are four events for your calendar that give you an ideal reason to book it to the French Caribbean this winter for some much needed beach bliss:
Taste of St Barts
The upcoming and much hyped gourmet food festival is being held October 30 through November 4, showcasing Michelin-starred celebrity chefs from around the globe. Seven chefs, seven restaurants, and twenty eight dinners to choose from – all you have to plan is a seaside nap after going culinary comatose. Out of France, Jerome Nutile, Jean Jacques Noguier, and Amadine Chaignot will be visiting, alongside Thomas Troisgros of Brazil, Daniel Berlin of Sweden, and Japanese chef Hideaki Matsuo. They will work in partnership with Relais & Chateaux’s resident chefs, headed by Eden Rock’s very own Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
Sailing into the New Year
Sailing is more than a sport, it’s the true maritime culture of St Barts. The New Year’s Eve Regatta is a prime time to watch the sailors race in an exciting around-the-island-parade. Then ring in the new year with locals, vacationers and VIPs alike – dance on the docks to live music and catch the spectacular fireworks display. Up your chances of bumping elbows with a celebrity by attending the most-frequented party of the year – La Plage Tom Beach, where turntable-ists spin among the barefooted bon vivants. Most everyone heads to Tom Beach to welcome the first sunrise of the new year, and the die-hards keep going through New Year’s Day.
St Barts Music Festival
From January 9 through the 25, 2015, get up-close with the word’s most prominent musicians. From companies such as the Paris Opera Ballet to performers from the Julliard in New York, the St Barts Music Festival has something for everyone. Since 1985, the island has attracted performers annually to experience intimate concerts of jazz, opera, and classical music, alongside exquisite ballet and modern dance, and many performers return year after year, to the delight of residents. Those who seek to be enlightened through the performing arts can enjoy some of the finest musical talent beside the sounds of the surf.
The Annual Bucket Regatta
Ever dreamed about hopping on board a superyacht? This might be your chance. March 19 through the 22, 2015, is peak time on the island to experience the grandeur of superyacht sailing (and enjoy the shore-side toasts). Since 1987, the Bucket Regatta has brought together top superyacht sponsors and professional yachties from all corners of the seas. Events take place annually in Newport (R.I) and St Barts, so don’t pass up the chance to become a true “Bucketeer” while in St Barts.
