It’s Punta Mita’s newest luxury villa — and early reviews suggest it may already be its best. “It’s really more like a delightful boutique hotel with all the amenities that 5-star hotels offer,” says Kathleen, who visited the home in January 2019. Other guest express the same thrill after having vacationed at the remote, private, and all-encompassing Casa Tau. Join us on a tour.
A brand new estate in Punta Mita, Casa Tau is part of the exclusive Los Ranchos community. Set on the last lot in the small, gated collection of less than 30 homes, privacy is no issue here. While there are no private beaches in Mexico, a short, man-made path leads from the home to the beach, making it one of very few homes in the area with direct access. The beach is sandy and virtually without rocks, with shallow water great for paddle boarding and surfing.
Having just opened to guests in December 2018, the brand new villa sports a modern, open-air design, the work of architect Manolo Mestre in collaboration with a renowned local father/daughter duo: Architect Juan Collignon and Interior Designer Karen Collignon. The home centers around a glorious Higuera Blanca tree, and many more native trees dot the property. A major design element implemented by the team, the trees actually complement the home’s clean lines.
Large groups — Casa Tau accommodates up to 27 — may congregate in spacious indoor lounge areas, around the billiard table, or in the media room in front of a movie. And the alfresco living is top notch, buoyed by a layout design that encourages barefoot mornings and breezy afternoons. Twelve guest rooms, each one with its own ensuite bathroom, are spread between three separate quarters.
The Main House has eight bedrooms: Four facing the ocean and four facing the garden. Ground-level rooms open straight to the terrace, while upper-level chambers open to a balcony. The ground floor Master Suite delights any couple with his and hers rain showers, a walk-in closet, and patio doors that open directly to the pool. A separate Guest House has two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchenette, and a dining area for five, and a second Guest House also has two bedrooms and a living room.
The home hosts large groups for effortless stays thanks to “ultra-luxury, top-of-the-line services,” according to Estate Manager Sabrina Franchini. Small conveniences, such as complimentary laundry service, delight guests at every turn.
Pampered Beyond Belief
No matter how big the group staying at Casa Tau, guests are always well taken care of. The moment you enter the gates, you’re captivated by the green, lush, meticulously manicured grounds. Plus, a staff welcome includes cold drinks, and “from that minute on you are pampered beyond belief,” says Jodi, a guest of Casa Tau in January 2019. A team of six butlers work ’round the clock so that every request is fulfilled immediately. At any given time, the home’s housekeepers, maintenance staff, and kitchen staff are at guests’ disposal. “The service far surpasses even the most fastidious of luxury hotels,” says Kate, who stayed at Casa Tau in December 2018.
A chef, sous chef, and three cooks typically inhabit the kitchen, whipping up large group dinners consisting of local dishes or a custom menu based on the group’s requests. For special occasions, Casa Tau’s team often hires in renowned guest chefs from local restaurants. Spoiler alert: Don’t be surprised if a Mariachi band graces your group during a dinner — the Casa Tau team likes to throw in surprises for its guests.
There are numerous off-property advantages to relish too within Mexico’s popular Punta Mita peninsula. A stay at Casa Tau garners its guests, for the duration of their stay, a membership to the Jack Nicklaus Signature Pacifico and Bahia Golf Courses. The former features one of the most memorable and unique holes in golf. Known as Tail of the Whale — the optional par 3 is the only natural offshore island hole in the world — players must carry their tee ball over 180 yards of Pacific Ocean to reach the island putting green.
After finding serenity at Casa Tau’s close-to-private beach, guests can liven it up at one of the local beach clubs thanks to the Preference Membership they’ll receive at Pacifico, St. Regis, and The Four Seasons. Special guest access also allows use of the tennis courts and spas at these resorts, all within a three-minute drive from Casa Tau.
Of course, you’ll want to end your day back at Casa Tau, according to Kathleen. “It was such a peaceful and glorious scene each evening at sunset as we sat on the spacious thatched roof terrace sipping margaritas and enjoying delectable hors d’oeuvres.”
Is Casa Tau the most luxurious home in Punta Mita? There’s only one way to find out.
